Show dates: May 27 and May 28, 2016
I've been a fan of the emo genre for ever since my friend first turned me to it back in the early 2000s. It's been such a trip to see this genre grow and change in the past 16 years, and one of those changes is the evolution of the band known as The Used. It's been about 15 years since their self-titled album and a few years shorter from their In Love and Death release. To celebrate the releases, they had a North American two-night tour where they played both albums in their entirety.
I had the fortunate opportunity to photograph their sets and be a part of such moving and powerful evenings. Night one, they performed their first album, interjecting anecdotes and footnotes about some of the tracks and life in general, and doing the same on night two with In Love and Death. Fans cried and sung their hearts out to these bonafide legends, while receiving a beautiful intimate performance that was more than appreciated and cherished by those in attendance.
And now, photos. I also included a Spotify Playlist of the first two albums to listen to while going through the photos.

It seems that all I'm doing these days are cosplay shoots, and I'm OK with that. I'm so OK with it, that I decided to throw my own little cosplay gathering at Griffith Park, after seeing the success of the Riverside Cosplay events.
I was nervous about the turn out on a number of levels. The first being "will there be enough people for it to be enjoyable?" The second being "Oh no, what if there are too many people?!" Luckily I feel that just the right amount of people showed up for everyone to get something out of it. Photographers got to network, cosplayers, new and old, got to get photos taken. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on the event, and this definitely won't be my last one.
I didn't get to take as many photos of as many people that I wanted to, but I feel that the following shots definitely summed up my day organizing this crazy event.

Sometimes I just want to take photos of awesome things. That's part of the reason why I love going to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale. Another reason I love going is running into friends who I didn't know were going. Another reason is turkey legs. Here are pictures. I'm still full.
Conditions were great for taking photos, Nice moody cloudy day, with even lighting made it so that my strobe would have an even greater effect on the subjects that were shot. The only downside was the half hour or so of light to heavy drizzling that caused me to panic on how to protect my light. Thank goodness it wasn't a downpour.
Anyway, here are pictures.
Cosplay/Event Gallery: Dapper Day 2016. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Anaheim, California.
Shoot date: May 1, 2016
I had a lot of friends planning to head out to Dapper Day at Disneyland this past weekend, and for a while I was up in the air about going, leaning on the side of not going. That is until my editor at Myspace hit me up, reminding me that I haven't done any projects for them in a while. I suggested Dapper Day and she was all for it. You can see the article here.
On a side-note. I haven't been to Disneyland since my overnight senior trip 15 years ago. And I haven't been to Disneyland DURING THE DAY even longer than that, Luckily I had my friends Rian Synnth and Law from Earth's Mightiest Zeroes act as my guides and gave me a fun touring experience for the first half of the day. I spend a lot of the day treating it like a convention. Hanging with friends, taking photos, and generally being silly. We wandered around a lot and had fun overall. By the time the meetup started, Jon York basically took control of the entire event in the Disney California Adventure side of the park, and he crushed it as always.
fter the group photos were taken, it was a bit of a free-for-all and with camera in hand, I got to meet up with a ton of people I know from other cosplay events. Maybe I'll come back to Disneyland a few more times within the next 15 years.
